A presentation of the 2019 Grant Project by JEC Fund was held on October 2, 2020, in Osaka at Tennoji Gakuso Theater (one of Sanpogakuso). Approximately one hundred members of various organizations who participated in the 2021 Grant Orientation, as well as JEC Fund representatives were in attendance.
Kitanodai Gagaku Ensemble (the Ensemble) was one of 46 projects supported by JEC Fund, which allowed them to complete a Gagaku Tour in Austria and Poland in 2019. In addition to the Ensemble, two other organizations, a steering committee for “Peace Art Project in Hiroshima” and Global Fund for Education Assistance, were invited to present their report.
This event was originally scheduled to be held in May; however, it was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The number of attendees were limited and necessary measures were taken to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
The presentation began with the introduction of gagaku instruments such as ryuteki, hichiriki and sho, and was followed by a brief summary of the gagaku concerts held in Linz and Vienna in Austria and Krakow and Warsaw in Poland by the Vice President of the Ensemble, Mrs. Mineko Iguchi. Lastly, the Ensemble performed a bugaku dance called “Hokutei raku” which was performed in the tour.
The gagaku performance was well received. Below are the comments from the audience:
“It was wonderful since I never had a chance to see live gagaku”
“I was surprised to know that sho was a chord”.
