This year marks the fifth Japan festival which started with the goal of creating a celebration that will endure and grow in Boston each year for centuries to come and was made possible by many monetary supports from corporations in the Boston area. The festival was blessed with beautiful weather and welcomed about 60,000 people, more than double from last year’s attendance.

The performance of the Kitanodai Gagaku Ensemble started at 1:00pm on the 2nd stage. About 500 people gathered to see the show.

Following the performance, a workshop by the Ensemble was held at 2:00pm. About 50 people joined to listen to the explanation of bugaku dance and were fascinated by the gorgeous costumes.

Many comments of spectators were noted. Some of them were: “It was my first time to see gagaku performance but it was a wonderful experience”, “It was a meaningful time for me to come and see a glimpse of Japanese culture.”
